Apple fixes QuickTime vulnerabilities, eases iTunes/Vista compatibility woes

iTunes itself has also been updated. Version 7.1 provides support for the Apple TV - due in a couple of weeks - along with a full-screen Cover Flow (Apple's name for the feature that allows users to 'flip' through cover art to select an album like they were riffling through a stack of CDs).

iTunes 7.1 also provides more options for sorting a media collection.

Although QuickTime 7.5.1 is offered for Vista as well as earlier versions of Windows, it appears that iTunes 7.1 still does not provide full compatibility with Microsoft's latest operating system.

The requirements are still XP with SP2 or 2000 with SP4, but an Apple knowledge base article states "iTunes 7.1 is recommended for use with most editions of Windows Vista, however, Apple is actively working with Microsoft to resolve a few remaining known issues."

We suggest Vista users read that article before installing the new version as there are some wrinkles that they should be aware of, and Apple also provides a procedure that will "improve your experience when syncing your iPod or playing iTunes Store purchases once upgraded to Windows Vista."

It sounds as if the next iTunes release may deliver full Vista compatibility.
