Google's announcement that its public DNS service now performs DNSSEC validation has been hailed as "a huge step forward for Internet security" by the Internet Society.

Nominum, a company whose software underpins domain name systems (DNS) for hundreds of ISPs worldwide, has developed a software platform and associated ecosystem to enable network operators to easily develop and deploy a wide range of applications to leverage the DNS.

The US Government has awarded ICANN a new contract to manage the Internet, ending six months of uncertainty after it refused to renew the previous contract, instead opting to give ICANN only a six month extension.
