Microsoft's anti-virus fails independent Vista security tests

Business IT - Security

Microsoft's OneCare anti-virus failed to block 37 malicious programs during an independent test of Vista-capable anti-virus software.

Windows Live OneCare was one of four packages that failed to gain the research group Virus Bulletin's VB100 stamp of approval, along with G-Data AntiVirusKit, McAfee VirusScan Enterprise and Norman Virus Control. To attain VB100 status, tested products had to detect all viruses from the test set taken from the WildList - a register of active virus.

OneCare 1.5 was released last month to coincide with the launch of Windows Vista. The blow to Microsoft and Vista's security credentials comes only days after the first security hole in Vista was revealed, allowing hackers to use voice recognition to take control of a computer.
