Full speed ahead for 10GbE encryption

Business IT - Security

Line-speed encryption for 10G Ethernet links will be available for customer testing by mid-year, promises network encryption specialist Senetas.

Engineers at the company's Melbourne head office have based the new device on  Senetas' existing 10G SONET product, and will deliver samples to US partner SafeNet by June. Customer trials will being the following month.

"If you pay for a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network, you should get it.  With Senetas' layer 2 10GbE CypherNet, encryption is a bump in the wire with data traveling at line speed," said CEO John DuBois, warning that some application layer technologies reduce throughput by up to 40 percent.

DuBois also said that Senetas and SafeNet are working more closely than ever, and are taking steps to increase sales of each other's products.
