Microsoft's October updates include critical fixes

Business IT - Security

Patch Tuesday will soon be with us again, and for October Microsoft is cooking up something for most Windows users and administrators. The scoreline is Critical 2, Important 6.

Microsoft will release on October 11 (US time) eight security bulletins covering 23 vulnerabilities. Two of the bulletins are rated critical, the rest are important.

The critical updates to be released next week affect Windows (XP, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2003, and Server 2008), Internet Explorer (6, 7, 8 and 9), the .NET framework and Silverlight.

The important updates are for Windows (again, all currently supported versions), Host Integration Server (2004, 2006, 2009 and 2010) and Forefront Unified Access Gateway 2010.

Microsoft will also release a new version of the Malicious Software Removal Tool, along with an update for the Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter.
