More features revealed ahead of Norton Internet Security 2012 release

Business IT - Security

A beta version of Norton Internet Security 2012 has been available ahead of the product's official release, but Symantec is still adding features. One of the latest is Safe Web for Chrome.

Like most security vendors, Symantec releases new major versions of its Internet security suite each spring. Norton Internet Security 2012 (NIS) is currently expected in September.

A newly revealed feature of NIS 2012 is Safe Web for Chrome. Safe Web is a NIS feature that checks the safety of links in web pages. Already available for Internet Explorer and Firefox, Symantec has now added support for Google's increasingly popular Chrome browser.

The company is also promoting improvements to Identity Safe, a NIS feature for the secure storage of web passwords and bookmarks. Identity Safe can now store the encrypted file in the cloud, allowing its use from any browser with this feature installed.

David Hall, regional product marketing manager, said the underlying engine had been completely rewritten for compatibility with an even broader range of web sites. Identity Safe was designed with cloud safety in mind, he added.

Identity Safe works with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome, and includes anti-phishing features.

That's not the only freshly-revealed feature of NIS 2012, so please read on.
