New malware cleanup tools form BitDefender

Security software vendor BitDefender is offering a pair of malware removal tools.

If you're not running decent security software, and your computer has picked up something that Microsoft's Malicious Software Removal Tool can't clean up, BitDefender might have the answer.

The company is now providing free removal tools for the current top 100 Windows malware threats. The disinfection software will be updated monthly, and currently includes TDL4 and Stuxnet removal.

Two versions are offered. One is for 32-bit versions of Windows, the other for 64-bit versions. The files are hosted on BitDefender's Malware City web site.

"Users not running an anti-malware solution take a greater risk of getting infected. Furthermore, if they have already become victims, they might infect friends or unwillingly affect other computers connected to the Internet," said Viorel Canja, Head of BitDefender Antimalware Labs.

"The recent publicity about TDL4 highlights the need to ensure you are protected, and these removal tools will go a long way to helping people do just that."
