Websense sees William and Kate spam

Spammers by their very nature are a slippery bunch, changing their approach as old techniques lose their effectiveness and also staying abreast of current affairs.

Released today, Websense's monthly summary of world-wide spam reads very much like yesterday's Symantec summary

We see the similar slow downward trend in total spam and an identical weekly cycle of higher incidences of spam on weekends compared to the rest of the week.  Presumably caused by the fact that business email is proportionally lower on the weekends and also that botted home-based clients are more likely to be online all day during that period and capable of sending more spam.

Websense also noted that our northern friends "Canadian Pharmacy" seem to have expanded their operations, now calling themselves "World Pharmacy;" with an extra step of rolling the victims through compromised websites before delivering them to the main World Pharmacy site.

And just to prove spammers read the news, Websense has also reported that there is already a huge influx of malicious sites dominating the Google hits to tap into the huge interest in the upcoming royal wedding - SEO at its finest!
