Want a preview of Norton Internet Security 2011 or Norton AntiVirus 2011? Symantec's security packages are now in public beta. The company has also released some free programs to further boost security.

It hardly seems any time since the 2010 edition of the Norton security programs were released, but the 2011 versions are now in public beta.

Company officials say the suites will "improve or maintain performance benchmarks" in key areas, and that System Insight 2.0 will provide alerts when applications are having a significant impact on system resources.

Symantec's reputation-based technology is now applied to "virtually every" file downloaded via a web browser, email program, or instant messaging client. It also provides users with an indication of how risky their downloading behaviour is relative to their peers.

You can download the 2011 betas here.

Coinciding with the start of the public beta program for the 2011 packages, Symantec released a trio of new security tools.
