Vendors circle the wagons around IE zero-day

Security vendors are scrambling to provide protection for the zero-day vulnerability in Internet Explorer that Microsoft disclosed earlier this week.

Coinciding with this month's Patch Tuesday, Microsoft this week warned of a publicly disclosed vulnerability in Internet Explorer 6 and 7.

This vulnerability is being exploited in targeted attacks, but Microsoft has yet to announce when a fix will arrive.

Meanwhile, security vendors are filling the gap.

BitDefender has released an emergency update that detects the exploit and blocks the malicious code before it can harm the computer.

According to BitDefender officials, the attack works by attracting visitors to a malicious web page through links in spam messages or posts to forums and social networks.
