Laura Chappell's definitive book on Wireshark will be available in less than three weeks.
Titled "Wireshark Network Analysis" and touted as "The Official Wireshark Certified Network Analyst Exam Study Guide," this 800-page monster is all you will ever need to understand the analysis of networking protocols and the data they carry.
The book's table of contents alone runs to 20 pages and shows that the book covers topics as diverse as "how to "Create and Apply Capture Filters," to "Create and Apply Display Filters" and even to "Use Wireshark's Expert System." And that's just the first half of the book; much of the remainder deals with the analysis of a variety of protocols including DNS, ARP, UDP, TCP, FTP and VoIP (to name a few).
who is Laura Chappell and why is she qualified to write this book?
According to her bio, Laura Chappell is the Founder of Wireshark University (www.wiresharkU.com) and Chappell University (www.chappellU.com) and a self-admitted "packet geek" as well as a highly-energetic speaker and author of numerous industry titles on network communications, analysis and security. Nicknamed "Glenda, the Good Witch," Laura has presented to thousands of State, Federal and international law enforcement officers, judicial members, engineers, network administrators, technicians and developers.
Ms. Chappell is a member of the High Technology Crime Investigation Association (HTCIA) and an Associate Member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) since 1989. Her blend of humor, personal experiences, energy and clarity have earned her a top spot as an industry speaker at Microsoft, Novell, Hewlett-Packard, High Technology Crime Investigation Association and US Court conferences.
In 2007, Ms. Chappell founded Wireshark University, an educational firm devoted to teaching the art of wiretapping/communications interception, network forensics, digital deception and decoys, traceback and reconnaissance.
