Kerio WinRoute Firewall no longer requires Windows

Business IT - Security

Jason Drew, IT director and system architect at Kerio partner Secom Technology, said "the ability to run under a virtual machine has been outstanding."

Carrying out a hardware upgrade is a major operation with some vendors, he said, but it is quick and easy with WinRoute.

Furthermore, the virtualised WinRoute can be restored in a matter of minutes following a failure.

Drew said he has been installing the appliance version in less than 15 minutes, and that Kerio's wizard makes it possible to put a secure firewall in place within 20 minutes.

He plans to migrate at least some of his customers to the virtualised firewall just for the advantage of being able to quickly and easily failover to another piece of hardware.

Successive versions of WinRoute Firewall have received ICSA Labs certification since 2000, Gudeli said, and internal testing suggests version 6.7.1 will also be certified.

Pricing remains the same as previous versions - $US329 for 10 users, or $US395 with integrated McAfee Anti-Virus.
