AVG bumps up security software

AVG has also updated its Email Server Edition. Version 8.5 - which works with Exchange, Domino, Kerio MailServer and other servers - includes an anti-spam module to block phishing attempts and other unwanted emails.

"AVG E-mail Server Edition 8.5 checks all e-mails sent and received, and their attachments, protecting against all e-mail-borne threats and the ever-increasing amount of e-mail spam attacks," claimed company officials.

In common with other security companies, AVG's anti-spam product is based on technology from email reputation, anti-spam and anti-phishing specialist Mailshell.

AVG Anti-Virus 8.5 is free for personal non-commercial use.

So if you're using an older version or, heaven forbid, have no security software running on your Windows PC, now's the time to give 8.5 a try.

AVG Internet Security 8.5 costs "less than $A100" for up to three PCs. It is also available as a single licence and in multi-licence packs from two to 10 systems.

AVG E-mail Server Edition 8.5 starts at $A220 for a one year, five mailbox licence.
