AVG bumps up security software

Business IT - Security

AVG has boosted the protection offered by its security products. The free version of its anti-virus suite now includes real-time protection against web-borne threats.

AVG is a well established PC security vendor, and the free version of AVG Anti-Virus graces many a home computer.

The problem is that the focus of malware writers has shifted from traditional viruses to threats hiding within web pages.

The addition of LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf to AVG Anti-Virus 8.5 (including the free edition) provides protection from such malware.

"Today's web threats move at lightning speed and only stay around long enough to scoop up their victim quota, so real-time detection is vital," claimed AVG officials.

"LinkScanner Active Safe-Surf checks the web page behind every link for hidden threats at the only time that matters – when users click on that link. "

This is a reference to other safe surfing products that rely on a database of dangerous sites or pages.
