What's not so clever is that the culprits are using a relatively small number of variations in the email, which makes it relatively easy to block by content filters. A single attachment is being used in all cases, further simplifying the task.

On top of that, the malware contained in the attachment is nine months old, so any decent security product should be able to detect it.
