Following last month's donation of the CloudStack platform to the Apache Software Foundation, Citrix has announced CloudPlatform, a fully-supported product based on CloudStack with other Citrix software components.

Citrix CloudPlatform is a commercial, fully-supported cloud orchestration platform based on Apache CloudStack and Citrix XenServer Advanced Edition, including integration with NetScaler (the company's cloud networking platform). "This is going to be the centrepiece of our cloud platform," said Citrix CEO Mark Templeton.

CloudPlatform will provide compatibility with the Amazon EC2 API to simplify application deployments across AWS and clouds based on CloudPlatform, plus a Software Defined Networking (SDN) controller. The product will also provide the  management and orchestration layer for Citrix's  Project Avalon, the company's forthcoming Windows-as-a-Service and Desktop-as-a Service platform.

Citrix CloudPlatform is scheduled for release in June.
