The focus of the project is now bug fixes, although beta 9 does deliver performance improvements in a couple of areas.
It seems likely that there will be another beta before the release candidate appears, though efforts are being made to see that the latter occurs "in weeks, not months" according to Johnathan Nightingale, director of Firefox development at Mozilla.
The beta can be downloaded here.
Features of Firefox 4 include significantly improved performance including graphics hardware acceleration, and support for HTML5, WebM, WebGL, new CSS3 features, OpenType, bookmark synchronisation, and multitouch (Windows 7 only).
