Firefox 3.5.7: bugs fixed, no security issues

Business IT - Open Source

There's another update for the popular open source Firefox browser, and for once there are no security fixes.

Firefox 3.5.7 appeared this week, fixing three bugs, none of which had security implications.

The most important of the three addresses a crashing problem that occurred under certain low-memory conditions and was known to arise on several extremely popular sites including Facebook, MySpace, Google, and Live Mail.

The other two concerned the way updates are presented to users, and the handling of proxy servers that support NTLM authorisation.

Version 3.5.6, released in mid December 2009, delivered seven security fixes along with a slew of stability fixes.

A number of known bugs remain in Firefox, including slow restoration of bookmarks from a backup, an obscure issue involving Flash and the Cookies dialog, and print-related issues under Windows and Mac OS X.

Firefox for Windows or Mac OS X can be most easily updated by using the program's Check for Updates command.
