As with most netbooks, the U135 is an Atom-based system, but is the first with the new 450 Pineview processor at 1.66GHz.
Moblin is a web-oriented interface that in this particular instance is provided in place of the KDE desktop usually found in Suse distributions. This machine is the first in the world to offer the Suse / Moblin interface.
Featuring a 10.1 inch 1024 z 600 screen, 160Gb disk, 2GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth and the usual array of sockets, this machine is expected to retail in the US for around $400. Currently, the computer is equipped for WiMax but this feature is not enabled, pending regulatory approval.
Understanding that a netbook must be quickly available for use, Novell and Intel (according to reports) worked hard to optimise the start-up time. They expect that it will be booted and connected to the Internet in around 30 seconds.
Advance units are on display at the MSI stand at CES, general shipping is expected in February. Australian availability is unknown at the time of writing.
