Want some free, prizewinning games for your Mac? Check out the winners of the uDevGames contest.
The uDevGames 2008 competition attracted 20 entries in genres ranging from arcade to puzzles to action, despite giving participants just three months to design and create a game.
One feature of the contest is that the source code for all entries is released under an open source licence. This allows future entrants to learn from their predecessors' experience.
Another is that it involves public and peer voting, so the results aren't dependent on the views of a small number of judges who may bring their own baggage to the task.
The prize for best overall game went to Justin Ficarrotta for his action game Laserface Jones vs Doomsday Odious.
Laserface Jones was also the top-rated entry for gameplay, graphics, audio and presentation, and the third placegetter for story.
"I'm completely psyched. The last three months have been a rollercoaster, but uDevGames 2008 has been a really amazing experience," said Ficarrotta.
What else did Ficarrotta say, and where can you get the games? See
