A number of Australian employees of Hewlett-Packard are facing the loss of their jobs as the global computer giant looks to slash its worldwide workforce by up to 30,000.
Two core members of the development team of Web content management system Joomla - Brad Baker and Sam Moffatt - will be talking to the Melbourne Joomla Community about a range of new features and progress with Joomla! 1.5 at a special event being held to coincide with the Australian Linux Conference in Melbourne next month.
Melbourne JoomlaDay 08 is targeted at both users
and developers, according to the organisers, who believe 2008 will see
the Australian Joomla! community maturing like Joomla itself. With
Melbourne and Sydney User Groups now established (www.joomladay.org.au)
and others on the way.
In addition to the Joomla speakers, Damian Hickey from Open Freeway
will be showing off a new project integrating the Open Freeway
eCommerce platform with Joomla. In addition, Leslie Hawthorn from the
Google Open Participation Contest, a collaborative effort between
Google and a nukmber of open source projects to get young people
interested in open source development, will talk about how the Joomla
projects in the contest have been going.
Other presenters will walk through tutorials on Joomla installation
tips and template design. Attendees can also put tough questions they
may have to the panel on the day to get expert advice that the
organisers claim money can't usually buy - but the four hour event will
cost just AUD$25.
JoomlaDay 08 will be held on 2 Feb 2008, from 1-5pm, with registration
opening at 11:30am. The venue will be The University of Melbourne, Old
Arts lecture theatre D, chosen because of its close proximity to the
Linux Conf Open Day Exhibition.
For online registration, visit http://melbourne.joomladay.org.au. And
of course sponsorships and free software giveaways will be welcomed by
the organisers.
