Camino stomps critical security flaws

Business IT - Open Source

An update to Camino delivers security and other fixes along with feature enhancements.

Camino is an open source Mac OS X web browser based on Mozilla's Gecko engine. Unlike Firefox, it takes advantage of Mac-specific technologies such as the Keychain and system-wide spellchecking, and also more closely follows Mac user interface conventions.

Version 1.5.2 uses Gecko 1.8.1.8, which provides critical security and stability fixes.

Camino-specific bugs fixed in this release include problems with large download lists and corrupted site icons, refetching frames before displaying their source, and failing to correctly execute actions when a page is closed.

The new version also provides improved ad blocking, including the incorporation of Flashblock 1.5.4.1 to delay loading Flash animations until a user request. The Java Embedding Plugin has also been updated.
