Business IT - Networking

South Australian ISP Internode says it will spend $3.5 million deploying a mix of DSLAMs in Telstra exchanges and solar-powered broadband radio towers to provide broadband services to 42,000 square kilometres of the Central Local Government Region of SA stretching from Adelaide’s northern fringe to the Flinders Ranges.

Internode says that, through an agreement with the Central Local Government Region, a body which represents 15 councils, and with the aid of funding under the Government's Broadband Connect programme it will puts broadband within reach of most of the region’s more than 80,000 residents.

Member councils of the Central Region involved in the project are Barunga West; Clare and Gilbert Valleys; Copper Coast; Flinders Ranges; Goyder; Mallala; Mount Remarkable; Northern Areas; Orroroo/Carrieton; Peterborough; Port Pirie; and Wakefield. Internode also intends to extend the broadband network to the mining township of Leigh Creek

Internode has already used solar powered radios to take broadband to the Coorong District http://www.itwire.com.au/content/view/5790/127/ and says it is also on track to expand its broadband infrastructure in the next 12 months to cover the Riverland, the Murraylands, and other large areas of South Australia.
