WD is targeting SMEs with its latest storage product, the Sentinel DX4000. Capacities start at 4TB, and offsite backup is optional.

The DX4000 acts primarily as a file server (Windows, Mac, Linux), and also offers backup for up to 25 computers (Windows or Mac). Support for file access from remote locations is included.
There's also the option of connecting the DX4000 to a public cloud storage provider for offsite backup.
Hardware features include an Intel D525 dual core Atom CPU, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with automatic failover, and enterprise-class hard drives that can be configured as RAID 1 or 5.
"The WD Sentinel small office storage server is the ideal storage, backup, and secure remote access solution for any SMB," said Thomas Gallivan, vice president of marketing for WD's SMB Solutions Group. "The ability to have centralised storage that is both on-premise and offers secure remote access provides a small business owner and employees the flexibility needed for today's mobile lifestyle. WD is providing small business owners with a hands-free solution that offers complete data protection and unparalleled peace-of-mind."
The 4TB version costs $1499, the 8TB configuration is $2199.
