Wireless NBN trial to start in April

Business IT - Networking

NBN Co is to launch a trial of its fixed wireless network service, starting in April.

In the latest edition of its access seeker newsletter, New Connections, NBN Co said: "The trial is expected to last six months and will be preceded by network testing activities in Armidale. Armidale, Tamworth and Toowoomba will be the first areas to have the trial services available, followed by Ballarat, Darwin and Geraldton."

During the six month trial period, NBN Co will not charge any fees for the fixed wireless service. Service providers will also have the ability to facilitate pre-orders and pre-installations in the weeks leading up to the April launch.

The network is being supplied by Ericsson and will use TD LTE technology to deliver 12Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream. Like most others, NBN Co claims this to be "the latest 4G technology," which it is not.
