Nextgen Networks completes Regional Backbone Blackspot rollout

Business IT - Networking

Nextgen Networks has announced completion of the Federal Government's $250 million Regional Backbone Blackspots Program (RBBP), for which it was awarded the rollout contract in December 2009.

The just installed the 3800km Darwin, Emerald and Longreach fibre link is the last in the 6000km network that connects more than 100 regional locations with a total population of around 163,000.

The RBBP network was rolled out by Nextgen and its construction partner Visionstream - both subsidiaries of Leighton Telecommunications, a division of Leighton Contractors, which is itself a subsidiary of Leighton Holdings.

According to Nextgen, "Visionstream committed more than a 1,000 staff and subcontractors to ensure the project was delivered on budget, to specification and in line with the objectives established by the Commonwealth."
