Queensland Internet exchange trial mooted by WAIA

Business IT - Networking

The WA Internet Association is spreading further afield with a trial of a proposed Internet exchange in Brisbane.

The WA Internet Association (WAIA) already operates a long established peering point in Western Australia (WAIX) and is trialling a similar facility in Victoria.

The WAIA is now preparing a trial of a peering point in Brisbane, located at the NEXTDC B1 data centre.

"NEXTDC is delighted that WAIX has selected NEXTDC to commence their Queensland IX trial. NEXTDC is focused on establishing a national data centre footprint and bring with it a cloud enabling ecosystem. Organisations such as WAIA are key to achieving that goal," said NEXTDC CEO Bevan Slattery.

Organisations interested in joining the trial may contact Joe Wooller on 0412 005 457.

The idea of a peering point or Internet exchange is to provide participating organisations - often carriers or ISPs, but also organisations with substantial Internet traffic - with high speed, low latency interconnectivity at a much lower cost than using a normal upstream provider.
