NEC unified communications system going into University of Western Sydney

Business IT - Networking

Unified communications is coming to the University of Western Sydney.

An NEC unified communications system installed at the University of Western Sydney will make life easier for staff that may need to work at any of the institution's six campuses.

Once implementation is complete, they will be able to use their own numbers and address books from handsets at any location, with presence information and unified voicemail and email.

The installation uses two NEC SV8500 VOIP servers, capable of supporting up to 4000 users.

"Upgrading the communications network provides us with the opportunity to consolidate the communications infrastructure across all of our campuses, reduce our operational costs and better support our staff and students," said IT infrastructure services manager Paul Hardaker.

"This new system is able to support the growth and changing needs of the university," he added.
