Making a virtue of limits: iiNet offers terabyte ADSL plan

Some ISPs are already offering unlimited download ADSL plans, but iiNet is boasting of offering Australia's first one terabyte (1000GB) ADSL plan.

iiNet CEO, Michael Malone, said the new one thousand Gigabyte plan was part of a new suite of simplified plans with greatly increased data quotas available to new and existing customers. There are new plans across both business and residential offerings.

"We've built a high performance network over the past five years, including great long term deals with our suppliers. We have oodles of bandwidth and it's about time we used it," Malone said.

He added: "Today we continue to lead the market with our latest innovation - Australia's first one terabyte plan'¦This isn't about big plans, it's about sustainable plans."

Optus, however, launched an unlimited ADSL plan in April. AAPT launched one in February, but users were required to take a phone service and a $50 per month music download service as well.

Malone said the new plans with increased quota were in response to Australians' increasing appetite for fast broadband and online content, including live and catch-up television, music, online gaming and much more. iiNet customers' average usage has been increasing 20-30 percent per year.

The new plans would be available from 20 August. Existing Naked DSL customers will automatically receive the higher quota at no extra cost. Other iiNet customers will continue on their existing plans unless they choose to change.

All the new plans now count both upload and download data towards the quota. At present, upload is counted only on naked DSL plans.
