NBN Co details fibre, wireless and satellite service specs

Business IT - Networking

NBN Co has released three product papers detailing the wholesale services it will offer over its planned FTTH, wireless and satellite networks.

All three papers are available on the NBN Co web site. However the process of product development is at different stages for the three technologies.

The FTTH product paper is a relatively mature document, representing the outcome of extensive consultation by NBN Co with wholesale and retail service providers. The wireless and satellite documents represent the starting point for discussions. Submissions are requested by 2 September and will be published on the NBN Co web site.

NBN Co says it has already consulted widely on the fibre products, both in industry forums and in an estimated 150 hours of bilateral discussions, and that much of this feedback has been incorporated into the paper: 'Product Overview - Fibre Access Services'. Further comment is welcome and it too is due by 2 September.

NBN Co has provided a detailed schedule for publication of additional documents on its fibre product. It is planning to release a pricing guide and an indicative three-year rollout schedule in Q4 of 2010. A service management and operations manual and a deployment guide will follow in Q1 2011 and a systems manual in Q2 2011.

For the wireless products it expects to release a point of interconnect consultation paper in September 2010 and an updated version of the product overview in September. No timeframe for future documents on satellite services has been given.
