Optus and 3 are to offer their mobile customers access to the LinkedIn networking site for professionals free of download quotas.
LinkedIn is accessible from iPhone and BlackBerry via custom applications, or via a standard browser. Optus is offering new and existing consumer and small business customers, who connect to selected rate plans, unlimited access to LinkedIn.
3 will offer free access to LinkedIn for all new customers who connect to any postpaid contract after 1 July 2010, across all handsets including the Apple iPhone, BlackBerry and other compatible devices. The offer is available for 3's Australian customers when accessed via the Planet 3 portal, mobile web or via LinkedIn's mobile application.
Clifford Rosenberg, managing director of LinkedIn Australia and New Zealand suggested that having LinkedIn access, on the go, would be particularly useful to LinkedIn members heading into meetings. 'LinkedIn's mobile application allows professionals to connect with colleagues on the go or search for a member's professional profile ahead of a business meeting.'
LinkedIn claims to have more than 1.5 million members in Australia & New Zealand. The LinkedIn web site was launched in 2003 and claims to be the largest professional networking site in the world with more than 70 million members from 200 countries.
