A consortium of three companies - Universal Communications Group (UCG), Telcoinabox and Utilibill formed in 2009 - has completed the installation of an FTTH network to 900 'brownfield' homes in the Sanctuary Cove development on Queensland's Gold Coast.
A further 900 new homes on the estate will be connected to the network as they are built, along with Sanctuary Cove's commercial precinct, by 2015. Suppliers include Silcar, Madison Technologies, Pipe Networks, Uecomm and Digital Distribution Australia.
UCG general manager, Roger McArthur, told iTWire that Uecomm had provided a fibre link to Brisbane and Digital Distribution Australia a microwave link to Brisbane, for redundancy and
The network operates as open access, allowing other services providers to offer services to connected customers. Current providers are Telcoinabox resellers MyOwn Tel for telephony and Telair for Internet services; Austar and SelecTV are offering pay TV services.
Telcoinabox provide help desk and back office support and facilitates connections for some of the service providers on the site. Utilibill provide the billing platform for retail service providers and the operating support system.
The network is owned by the Sanctuary Cove body corporate and, having been built by UCG, is now operated for the body corporate by UCG subsidiary, Open Access Networks.
McArthur said: "The architecture and design was done by UCG then Silcar did the detailed design of the outside plant and implemented that as a direct contract to Sanctuary Cove. UCG did the head end and the in-home installation."
