Optus picks Siemens to supply ADSL2+ modems

Optus has chosen Siemens Speedstream 4200 self-install broadband ADSL2+ modems as the CPE for its national rollout of residential high-speed broadband services.
According to Siemens the agreeement takes the total of Siemens Speedstream modems sold to date into the Australian market past the 500,000 mark.

David Huck, Siemens Australia general manager customer network solutions, hinted that Optus could be planning to offer a range of services over the network other than broadband Internet access and video content. "Home security, home automation and home entertainment are just some of the applications currently being implemented by Siemens in other parts of the world - applications that will soon become additional features offered across ADSL2+ networks," he said.
