Microsoft is scrapping Response Point, its IP PBX for small businesses, just over a year after OEM the product went on sale in Australia,as the D-Link Voice Centre.
Microsoft says it will instead focus on providing this functionality through the Microsoft Communications Server.
In an
announcement on its web site, Microsoft said: "Despite favourable initial response from customers and channel partners since launch, we have not seen the necessary demand materialise to sustain Response Point as a viable standalone business. To continue to support the needs of the small business community, we expect to consolidate our efforts and offerings in this space around Microsoft Office Communications Server (OCS)."
Microsoft
announced Response Point in March 2007 as an OEM product for up to 50 users and named D-Link, Quanta and Uniden as the initial OEM partners.
D-link Australia announced plans to introduce the product locally
in October 2008, as the D-Link Voice Centre. The product
went on sale in May 2009. At the time of writing iTWire has been unable to obtain comment from D-Link on its user base or any plans for ongoing support or migration. However, Microsoft says it will cease to support its OEM partners in three months time.
