Fonality offers IP PBX in the cloud and unlimited calls for $39/month

Fonality Australia has launched a hosted IP telephony service for small businesses that offers full PBX functionality in the cloud, a handset and unlimited calls to Australian fixed and mobile numbers, for $39 (+ GST) per user per month without contract.

Fonality says the service is aimed primarily at companies with up to 20 employees. The standard $39 package includes a number of add on services: free international calls to fixed line numbers in the USA, UK and New Zealand; 60 minutes of other international calls and calls to mobiles each month; auto-attendant; music on-hold; call hold, parking and transfer; a web administration portal and direct indial number.

$55 per month buys the team edition with in-house conference calls, paging and intercom, call centre functionality and additional reporting features. The service will be launched at CeBit in Sydney next week.

Fonality's vice president of international sales, Marc Englaro, told ExchangeDaily that the company's vision was to earn its revenue from features and give away call minutes. "Minutes are terribly over-priced for what the cost," he said. "Our aim is to provide really sophisticated functionality and if possible give away all the minute for free, and we are almost there."

The service was launched by Fonality's US parent in mid 2009. In Australia, Englaro said: "We see the main market as businesses who have used their mobile phones or had a couple of analogue land lines'¦ We have existing channel partner programme but we think we will need a different sort of partner that focuses on really small businesses."

He added that any good ADSL service should be sufficient for up to about 15 users.
