Optus has launched a videoconferencing offering on its Optus Evolve IP-MPLS network, comprising equipment, connectivity and inter-operation with other videoconferencing systems around the world.
Under the Optus Evolve Video offering services and equipment are provided with no upfront capital costs on a pay-as-you-go basis, and Optus will also incorporate a customer's existing videoconferencing systems into its Evolve Video offering.
According to Scott Mason, director of fixed products, marketing and strategy in Optus Business, "One of the most compelling things about Optus Evolve Video is that it works across multiple platforms. This means that customers can communicate with parties outside their organisation without having to purchase expensive bridging and gateway equipment that would otherwise be required."
Optus Evolve Video provides customers will access to more than 4,000 public video rooms worldwide.
According to Mason, "One of the historical barriers to videoconferencing has been the upfront costs of the video equipment and the bridging systems that companies need to set up their videoconferences. We're allowing customers to buy equipment from us or use the equipment they have and have it managed by us."
He said that Optus would primarily offer Polycom video products, but would supply other brands if customers requested these.
The focus of Optus Evolve Video is the latest HD video offerings but Optus will support interoperability between standard definition ISDN and the newer technologies allowing customers to upgrade their legacy equipment in their own time.
