Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Austar is to use Soul's Australia-wide IP network to provide the backhaul for its planned regional broadband wireless service, expected to be available to 750,000 homes in 25 regional Australian locations by the end of 2007.
Austar has access outside capital cities the same spectrum as Unwired in capital cities following a spectrum swap by the two organisations last year, and is planning to use the same Navini technology so users will be able to roam between the two networks.
Soul acquired the network of the bankrupt Comindico which had invested $360 million to build a Cisco-based all IP network with access points in every Telstra call collection area in Australia.
Austar CEO, John Porter, said the arrangement with Soul is a strong signal that alliances were the key to delivering world-class, standards-based, broadband infrastructure to regional Australia.
“We have enjoyed a long history with Soul. They have provided the network for the 38,000 customers on our award winning dial up AustarNet service.
The chairman of SP Telemedia (which trades as Soul), Rob Millner, said: "we’re also looking at opportunities to deliver voice services to consumers (using VoIP technology) as part of the Austar broadband service."
Soul claims to have the largest independent fully converged voice, video and data network in Australia, and the largest voice enabled IP network in Australia. Through its 46 percent interest in B Digital it is the largest mobile telephony reseller in Australia.
