Telecom NZ announces ADSL2+ rollout plans

Business IT - Networking

Telecom New Zealand says it will start installing ADSL2+ DSLAMs in its exchanges in June.

General Manager Wired, Matt Crockett, said the next phase of services were part of the multi-year $NZ1.4 billion transformation of Telecom's network. "Telecom has partnered with Alcatel to put this substantial new telecommunications infrastructure foundation in place, taking business and consumer broadband services to the next level,"

Under the plan services to be introduced to parts of New Zealand this year include: broadband access at up to 24Mbps; home based video calling with dedicated handsets; an IPTV trial that will build on the in-house trial of IPTV now being conducted among some Telecom staff.

Crockett said these mass market services would complement the high bandwidth broadband offers now available to larger business customers, including One Office which offers broadband connections with speeds of up to 1Gbps.
