Abigroup to build out Vividwireless Perth WiMAX network - quick smart

Business IT - Networking

Abigroup Telecommunications has secured a contract with Vividwireless to construct the base stations for its planned mobile WiMAX network in Perth, due to launch in March 2010.

Vividwireless is a subsidiary of Sydney based Unwired, which is in turn a subsidiary of Perth base Seven Network. The formation of Vividwireless was announced in September along with plans for the network rollout. Vividwireless will be responsible for marketing and customer service on the network and Unwired for construction and operation.

Most of the main suppliers were named shortly afterwards   - Huawei will supply the WiMAX network. However Unwired said at the time that negotiations were continuing with companies to build out the 150 cell sites and 15 hub sites.

Abigroup has not said how many sites it will be responsible for, but given that more than two months have elapsed since that announcement, it is perhaps not surprising that Abigroup boasts: "The project is scheduled to be completed in record time to launch the new network in March, 2010.

Abigroup will be responsible for civil construction of base station sites and for install the antennas, cabinets and equipment and for base station testing.

Abigroup said its employees would work on wireless sites across Perth to install antennas on rooftops as well as install the cards, cabling, cabinets and equipment that process the data signals enabling customers to access the Internet wirelessly.
