Uecomm to provide backhaul for regional Qld broadband ISP

Business IT - Networking

Optus subsidiary Uecomm has announced a five year deal to provide backhaul for the broadband ADSL2and wireless networks being rolled out in Northern Queensland by Regional Internet Australia.

Ericsson was named on 8 December as the DSLAM supplier for the network and other announcements are imminent.

Uecomm says that, through its strategic alliance with Nexium Telecommunications, it will provide essential fibre services needed for RIA to rollout ADSL2 throughout regional Queensland in addition to providing data backhaul to Brisbane for the delivery of Internet services.

RIA CEO, Warren Thomson, said Uecomm's contract win was influenced by the carrier's ability to deliver an end-to-end solution and its strategic alliance with Nexium Telecommunications. "Uecomm was able to provide us with one simple integrated solution and we're confident it's the best possible network option for regional Queensland."
