Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Global virtual network operator (VNO), Vanco has signed a two-year deal with UK based global engineering company, Smiths Group plc.
Smiths originally selected Vanco three-years ago to provide a secure IP network to around 100 sites, focusing, according to Vanco "on hard-to-reach locations that traditional asset-based carriers were unable to support on a global scale."
"As part of an IT consolidation programme, this allowed Smiths to reduce its infrastructure costs by 20 percent, and therefore extend IT services to additional business locations within the organisation," Vanco claims.
The contract extension, worth $A1.2m over two years, incorporates sites in four continents and supports all four of Smiths' business divisions.
The network includes sites in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, India, Singapore and Thailand. Two different carriers are utilised in China to support a number of Smiths' sites in the country. In total Vanco has used around 20 underlying carriers across numerous countries.
John Lytle, CTO Smiths Group, said: "we remain convinced by Vanco and its unique virtual network operator approach. Traditional carriers simply cannot deliver solutions to the sort of locations demanded by modern, forward-thinking manufacturers, and in a manner that affords us the flexibility we need to respond to our customers. Vanco has proven itself to be an important partner, supporting our global growth and innovative approach to the industry."
