Would you rather work hard for promotion or go for a quicker, if slightly sweatier, route to success?
Most people, you would like to imagine, have an understanding of the
work ethic and as a result are prepared to work hard in order to get on
in life. Most people, but not almost 20 percent of Brits it would seem.
According to a new online
survey commissioned by a UK recruitment scoring
website, as many as 1 in 5 British workers would much rather have sex
with the boss for a quick promotion than bother with the working hard
thing.
The survey of more than 1000 workers revealed that a further 26 percent
would kiss the boss for an automatic promotion, and 17 percent would
consider puckering up if the money was right.
18 percent came right out with it and said they would drop their
drawers and get down and dirty rather than hang around waiting to be
noticed.
The good news is that the survey did show that 39 percent of Brits were
prepared to work hard and graft their way up the promotion ladder with
long hours and dedication, if with no guarantee of a promotion or pay
rise at the end of it.
Lisette Howlett, Managing Director of the HireScores agency says that
for some people working their way up the career ladder can seem
something of a daunting task. She also says that "impressing your
manager can come naturally" which is perhaps a little unfortunate
considering the context.
Considering that the average workplace is already
buried deep in sex,
gambling, IM and adverts it
is surprising that any real work gets done at all.
