U.S. uses Internet over newspapers, but TV still tops

Business IT - Networking

The results from the PEW survey came from its People & the Press’ weekly News Interest Index. The survey was conducted between the third and seven day of December 2008. The number of U.S. adults participating in the survey was 1,489.

In fact, the Web is a really big draw with people between the ages of 18 years and 29 years, as its use climbed to 59%, while newspaper use among the younger crowd dipped to 28%.

The use of the Internet over all other types of media use is rapidly drawing the interest of younger people.

For more information on the PEW study, check out the December 23, 2008 PEW news release “Biggest Stories of 2008: Economy Tops Campaign: Internet overtakes newspapers as news source” (pdf file).

Although the Web is gaining ground on traditional news source, the PEW report shows that most people still get their news from many sources, such as the Internet, TV, newspapers, radio, magazines, and even gossip around the office coffee maker (which probably is listed under the “Other” category).

The PEW report also stated that CNN is the most watched television news source, at 17%, but down from 23%.

Fox News was listed as the second most watched TV source for the news.
