Australia still lagging in global broadband race: report

According to the report, Akamai monitored attack traffic directed at more than 400 unique ports, which was an almost twenty-fold increase compared with the first quarter of 2008.

“Some of the attack traffic targeted services on well known ports, with others appearing to be more arbitrarily selected,” says the report. “Although the port distribution was fairly large, the bulk of the traffic was fairly concentrated, as the top 10 targeted ports saw over 85 per cent of the observed attack traffic.”

The most targeted port during the quarter was Port 445, followed by Port 135. Port 445 is used for directory services on Microsoft operating systems.
