Does Rowling really need any more money? Is Rowling
really writing a lexicon of her own? Could Rowling not just donate a
bunch of money to charity instead and let the fans have the Vander Ark
Lexicon?
The real driver of all this, I suspect, has less
to do with Rowling in the end and more to do with Warner Bros. In
closing arguments, after all, Rowling's lawyers made much of how the
publication would hurt the movie and merchandising marketing.
Harry Potter fans are, at the end of the day, just a source of revenue
it would appear. Should we be surprised? Of the Warner Bros attitude,
no of course not, but of JK Rowling? Well, I for one expected more.
The final boot looks like it might have gone in with the disappearance of the Harry Potter Lexicon website itself.
I truly hope my fears are unfounded, but as I write this the website is
unavailable due to "technical difficulty" and the temporary URL
provided just returns a 404 not found error.
Wouldn't it be a shame if this spiteful legal action has killed off not
just a fan encyclopedia but also one of the most comprehensive of Harry
Potter online resources as well?
Still, not that Warner Bros or JK Rowling will be concerned, it is only
Harry Potter fans who will be impacted if the website has gone under...
