Net Applications restates browser share figures

Business IT - Networking

Net Applications' Market Share report for April has been reworked after the company discovered some of the sites it monitors had run a major marketing campaign solely targeting Internet Explorer users.

While the original report showed a month-on-month gain of over one percent to Internet Explorer at the expense of Firefox and Safari, the revised figures involve changes measured in hundredths of a percentage point.

The revised figures for operating system shares consequently show a much smaller gain for Windows than previously reported.

The Windows share was up very slightly from 91.57 percent in March to 91.64 percent, Mac down from 7.48 percent to 7.38 percent, and Linux up by a whisker from 0.61 percent to 0.63 percent.

iPhone, PlayStation and Wii shares were static month on month, and 'other' was up by just 0.01 percent.
