The Government has offered Australia's three mobile operators, and vividwireless, renewal of their existing spectrum allocated on 15 year licences in the late 90s and early 2000s at set prices, while the Government expects to rake in $3 billion.
Reliance is also in the process of acquiring US ethernet services provider, Yipes Enterprise Services for $US300m and says that this coupled with Flag's global expansion will "accelerate Reliance Communications' entry into the $US90 billion global market for enterprise and institutional data services" and will "place Flag at the forefront of global data communications."
As part of the Next Generation Network project, Flag is overlaying an all-IP enabled network and data centres to deliver advanced services such as application and content delivery. Flag will manage these through a global network operations centre in Mumbai.
• Fujitsu to upgrade Pacific Crossing
Fujitsu's agreement with Pacific Crossing is for an upgrade to increase the transmission capacity of its trans-Pacific submarine network (PC-1) to cope with the rapid growth of data traffic demand in the Pacific region, driven by Internet usage.
Roderick Boss, CEO of PCL. Said the upgrade would compliment PCL's current US backhaul build which would connect major points of presence on the West coast.
PC-1 is 21,000 km link between the US and Japan. Fujitsu will add an additional 200Gbps of capacity on each of the four segments and Pacific Crossing has an option for an additional 100Gbps upgrade.
Under terms of the agreement, PC-1 will be lit to at least 390Gbps of capacity on each segment of its protected network by the first quarter of 2008. This could increase to at least 490 Gbps by the second quarter of 2008 if PCL exercises its upgrade option.
Terumi Chikama, executive vice president of Fujitsu's Telecom Business Group, said: "I believe this win is attributable to the strong presence and track record in the global market of our advanced Flashwave S650 submarine wavelength divisional multiplexer."
