An app from a Melbourne-based developer will ship on an Android-based tablet in Japan. Yellowfin's business intelligence app will be preloaded on Onkyo's TA117 tablet.

Business intelligence (BI) software vendor Yellowfin released mobile BI app for Android last month. Now Onkyo, which is focussing on the enterprise market, has decided to preload the app on its TA117 tablet, which was first released in December 2010.

The app provides mobile access to the reporting and analytics features of Yellowfin's web-based service. No data is stored on the mobile device.

"We're obviously delighted with Onkyo's decision and the opportunity to further expand our presence in the Japanese marketplace," said Yellowfin CEO, Glen Rabie. "Japan, as a leader in mobile phone usage and technology, has significant growth potential regarding enterprise mobile devices and applications. Importantly, the Android platform is set to explode."

"It's clear that the Android platform is mounting a serious challenge in Japan, backed by the two largest telcos in NTT DoCoMo and KDDI," said Mr Rabie."Yellowfin is well placed to capitalise on Japan's shift to the Android OS."

Nearly 1.4 million Android devices were shipped in Japan during 2010, Yellowfin officials noted.
