Slowing international student numbers are still a problem for Australia's universities, but one app developer may have an answer.

Sky Software's solution has apparently been so successful that one Australian education agent has used app to find 4,000 prospective students in five months.

Sky Software’s ‘plug and play’ solution uses viral tests or quizzes to increase direct recruitment with what it describes as being minimum resources and minimum cost.

Leads generated by the application are captured in Sky PEPI, Sky Software’s School Management Solution. In an industry first, Sky PEPI gives the education provider insight on leads-to-student numbers and conversion ratios as part of this integration.

According to Marcel Creed, Senior Executive of Business Development, while tertiary educational providers are acutely aware of students’ prolific use of social media platforms, most struggle to extract its full potential to recruit students.

“Social media is a highly engaging medium and most students feel very comfortable using these tools to chat and share information with friends, and learn about organisations that interest them. It made sense for us to help organisations create an app that piques the interest of a potential student, as well as captures the leads in a seamless and efficient way.”

The UK’s peak body association for English language providers has already adopted the Facebook recruitment solution to promote a “Test Your English” quiz, and the solution has already been used successfully in Australia.

As an example of the power of the Facebook recruitment solution, an education agent that operated four Facebook pages used the solution to directly market their services to 4,000 prospective students between May and September this year.

The education agent spent $150 on an advertising campaign on Facebook to promote a test created using the content management solution offered by Sky Software and regularly posted links to the test on the walls of their Facebook pages.

The viral effect from wall posts and likes generated further cumulative interest in their services and resulted in significant increases in direct student recruitment.

The Facebook application sends the education provider a weekly report detailing the activity generated. At the end of each week, the Education Provider receives a report on the activity generated by the Facebook application.
